Mode of Delivery
This unit is delivered through a combination of online self-paced learning and practical workplace application, ensuring students can engage with theoretical content remotely and apply their skills in real-world scenarios. The online component includes interactive modules, readings, and assessments accessible via our Learning Management System (LMS), allowing students to progress at their own pace while adhering to course timeline.
Assessment Methods
Assessment is conducted by qualified assessors using a combination of tools and methods, in accordance with the principles of assessment (fairness, flexibility, validity, reliability) and the rules of evidence (valid, sufficient, current, authentic). Students will be assessed as either Competent or Not Yet Competent based on their performance against the unit requirements.
Assessment methods include:
-
Written Responses to Theory Questions: Students will complete theory-based questions within the Learning Management System (LMS) learning plans, demonstrating their understanding of safe work practices, WHS policies and procedures, hazard identification, and risk control measures.
-
Portfolio of Work Samples: Students will compile a portfolio containing evidence of workplace practices, such as completed Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), hazard identification reports, records of safe work procedures, and documentation demonstrating compliance with WHS policies and procedures, showcasing their practical application of safe work practices in operational environments.
-
Verbal Questioning: Conducted to assess students’ ability to communicate risk management concepts and procedures clearly and concisely, ensuring they can engage effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
-
Combination of the Above: A holistic approach combining written, verbal, and applied assessments to ensure students can safely, effectively, and efficiently implement safe work practices in the workplace.
