All students will be required to pre-read the supplied Leaner Manual and complete the associated online pre course assessment. This assessment must be 100% completed and provided to Parabellum International prior to commencement of face-to-face training.
Course Summary
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council.
The course offers and excellent grounding in first aid and will enable you to perform appropriate first aid procedures in basic life support skills.
This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Learning Outcomes
Through the combination of theory and practical training, this Provide First Aid Course gives participants the skills and knowledge to Provide First Aid procedures and basic life support skills across a range of life-threatening incidents. Once undertaken, the students should have a knowledge on: Documentation within the workplace, Duty of care, Burns, Infection control, Choking, Crush injuries, Overexposure to heat and cold, Bites and stings, Fractures and soft tissue injuries, Substance misuse, Altered conscious state, Internal injuries, Bleeding and amputations, Poisoning, Defibrillation, Head, neck and spinal injuries, CPR, Eye, Ear and nose injuries, Drowning, Asthma, Poisoning, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
This course is delivered through practical training and online learning assessments which the student will have full access once enrolled in our online learning management system. The online learning includes a downloadable first aid book to assist each student in the prior learning and completion of the pre-course assessments. The completed online assessment must be submitted to Parabellum International prior to the face-to-face training day. Students who have not completed the online assessments will not be able to proceed with the face-to-face training course.
Students who attend and successfully complete and meet all of the assessment requirements will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment for the following unit of competency:
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
A government issued photo identification and valid USI is required for course registration.
All students must undertake a language, literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy test before commencement of this course to ascertain if support is required to assist you into successfully meeting your goals.
Students must also possess the following:
- Communicate in a clear manner with others
- Read and Record measurements
- Record information legibly
- Read and comply with work instructions and specifications
- Complete a health and fitness declaration. Please note that students are required to declare any medical issue(s) that may prevent or exclude them from full participation of all units
- The physical capacity to undertake the practical components with this course, including the physical ability to kneel and perform CPR on the floor, uninterrupted for a period of at least two minutes over a number of times.
- Wear long pants, long sleeved shirt and safety glasses on face-to-face training days
