Containing oil in changing water levels presents a problem to conventional skirted booms. Ro-Boom beach oil containment boom is a specialised boom with twin water ballast tubes and a single air tube. As the water level recedes the Ro-Boom beach sits down into the sand and mud effectively sealing the area. When the level comes up the boom will re-float and act as a conventional boom. This heavy-duty shore-sealing boom is ideal for scenarios where the boom will regularly be sitting on a tough surface which could damage booms made from lesser materials. The Ro-Boom beach is a special purpose containment boom that utilises water ballast. The water is pumped into two tubes along the bottom of the boom – this water acts as ballast when the boom is floating; once the boom is stranded these tubes sit on the ground and form a seal. The two fins running the length of the water tubes aid this effect. The Ro-Boom beach makes the transition between water and land and prevents the spread of oil in these regions.
Ro-Boom beach oil containment boom can be deployed on beaches with relatively low waves, swamps, lagoons and other areas where the water level is shallow or changes due to tide, rains or flooding. Ro-Boom beach is fitted with a single air tube along the top of each section. This chamber is inflated and the boom can be towed to the deployment location. Once on site the water tubes are filled. Sections of the boom are connected with ASTM aluminium quick connectors, and other types of boom can also be connected using these connectors. The smooth parallel surfaces of the boom are easy to clean.
